What began as a game for my daughter, it was finished yesterday! I am so happy for her creativity and for her willingness to learn patchwork and all kinds of hand made techniques. Her first project, a small and simple one, was a perfect opportunity for learning so many things: how to choose the project, how to choose the fabrics (patterns and colors), how to combine them, how to cut them (with scissors and rotary cutter), how to sew by hand and by machine so it will turn out perfect (you know, corner by corner!), how to choose the batting and the back fabric, how to sew them together in order to quilt, how to quilt by machine (just a simple straight line for now), how to choose the type and the fabric for the binding and how to bind and to finish everything nicely.

I was amazed to see how carefull and precise she can be! Of course, being a child of these times, patience is not always her biggest asset, but I am pleased to see what she managed to make by her own hands, even if it took so long until it was done. The important thing for me is that she wanted to learn, that she did learn a lot of things and that she enjoyed it. I don't know if she will become a serious quilter someday and I think it doesn't matter. What matters is that she learned to do something by her hands that she won't forget and this might be useful someday.
